2020...what a year! As a community, we have experienced the highest of highs and the lowest of lows. This has been a year absolutely unlike any other, and we are so proud of how Calvert County adapted to all of the changes that came our way.
Today, we want to take a look back at our 2020 Dickinson Jewelers year in review. Despite all of the craziness, we had an amazing year working with our wonderful, supportive customers, and we want to celebrate!
February

On February 7, we hosted a Galentine's Day party. Almost everything in the store was 15 percent off, we had a great sale on Kendra Scott, and we did super fun activities like getting our lip prints read and making our own nail polish. How crazy is it to think back on a time when parties were not only allowed but also happened without masks?!
March
A month later, we had huge plans for an awesome Vahan trunk show. We started hearing rumblings about something called "COVID-19", so on March 19, we hosted our very first Facebook Live so that our Vahan event could still happen. We had a blast! Little did we know what 2020 would have in store...

As the pandemic began to spread, we closed our storefronts on March 23 to help our community stop the spread of the virus. This was a very scary time in the world. We were so proud of our employees for immediately pivoting and trying creative ways to keep our business going. We never pictured posting a video about handwashing, but we were glad to have such a great model!
April
Our physical storefronts remained closed throughout April, but we worked hard to increase our online presence. We hosted our annual Calvert County Best Mom and Best Dad essay contest online for the first time and were amazed by the great response!

We embraced Facebook Live and did our second one to showcase some great Mother's Day gifts!
May

One fun aspect of May was our innovative Mother's Day delivery system. We loved getting to drop off your gifts in a safe and fun way!

Using social distancing, we were also able to celebrate our Best Mom essay contest winners. Celebrating with Nolan Hawit for mom Camille (first place), Abigayle Bergan for mom Sabrina (second place), and X'Savior Butler for mom Shanika (third place) was a unique opportunity, and we were so excited we were still able to make this happen!

On May 19, we were able to reopen our stores using strict COVID safety protocols. We were so, so happy to see your faces in Dunkirk and Prince Frederick, and we were especially grateful to essential workers for their service.
June

We celebrated graduates in June! We held an online contest and randomly selected 6 graduates to surprise with a delivery of a gift from Dickinson Jewelers, a special “Dickinson Diploma”, balloons, and more.

We also got to announce the awards for our Best Dad essay contest! We loved using social distancing to award Donovan for dad Sean Stone (first place), Cohen for dad Justin Van Bavel (second place), and Aibhilin for dad John Fockler (third place).
July and August

Even though the pandemic calmed slightly in the summer months, it was so important to us to keep up with our COVID-19 protocols! We hosted a Facebook Live on July 27 to promote our summer sale. Kathy and Sherrie definitely became Facebook Live experts this year!

We also changed the way we did our summer sale this year. The pandemic created a real need in our community, and we wanted to support local food banks while also promoting safe shopping. We sold tickets to our sale for $5 and donated the proceeds to End Hunger. We also hosted a food drive. Everyone who brought non-perishable items was entered to win a pair of diamond earrings!
September
The week of September 1, we hosted our annual Antique and Estate Jewelry event. We love bringing in a totally new collection of unique jewelry! This year, we offered video consultations to help people pick out their favorites.

We also hosted a back to school photo contest. We asked families to comment on our Facebook post with their child's back to school picture. Then, we added all of the names to a hat and drew one lucky winner to receive a family fun basket! We knew this school year would be different, and we loved getting to kick it off in a special way.
October

We had such a great time at our annual Howl-O-Ween Event benefitting the Humane Society of Calvert County! We collected donations for the Humane Society of Calvert County and had adoptable dogs at both locations. We had fun games and prizes, including one where you could pick a pumpkin and win a gemstone. Baby Archie won a diamond!

November

We always loved hosting legendary designer Lecil Henderson in store! Lecil came on November 18 to help customers find perfect pieces for their collections. Sadly, Lecil passed away that Sunday. We will forever cherish the memory of our friend, and we continue to keep his family in our thoughts and prayers.

In November, we also held a ladies' night on Facebook Live. We had a blast giving away prizes and seeing all of our ladies!
December

The last month of the year was one of our busiest! We hosted an Open House event on December 4. We also, as we have in years past, were a drop-off location for Toys for Tots. We can't wait to hear how many children you were able to help!
As you can definitely see, we had a VERY busy 2020! Even though so much was different, it is heartwarming to see how many smiles we got to help create. We are BEYOND grateful for our wonderful community. Your support means the world to us. We cannot wait to see what joys 2021 has in store! Thank you all for being a part of our Dickinson Jewelers family.
