At Dickinson Jewelers, we wanted to give a shoutout to one very special dad in particular. Our owner and master jeweler Claude Dickinson is one awesome dad to Bing, Avery, and Libby. We sat down with Claude to talk about fatherhood, jewelry, and the finer things in life.
What’s your favorite part about being a dad?
I think the different stages of your kids’ lives are interesting in several ways. You don’t know what to expect until they go through them. It’s like a rollercoaster through each phase. And then all of a sudden, they get to about 16, and they’re grown up and have become good people.
What quality do you think all dads need to have?
The ability to put things into perspective. This is important so that you can do your best to make each situation positive. Having perspective and being patient is so important.
If you could tell a future dad one thing, what would it be?
Try to avoid screens for your kids as much as possible. No cell phones, no iPads, no computers, no Xboxes. And when you do have screens for your kids, teach them that technology is a privilege, not a right.

Second in your heart...what’s your favorite meal?
Steak and lobster tail. That’s how you know you’ve really made it: a good filet mignon and a big, juicy lobster tail.
