It’s June, and summer is officially in full swing! We’re living for cookouts, pool parties, and — of course — this month’s birthstones. June is one of the rare months to have THREE birthstones, and we’re in love with all of them. This month, we’re going to take a look at pearl, alexandrite, and moonstone, learning about their history while seeing what beautiful pieces Dickinson Jewelers has in store.
June’s primary birthstone is pearl, which is certainly one of the more famous gems out there. Unlike most gemstones, pearl originates in molluscs like oysters rather than deep within the earth. Like most gemstones, though, there were multiple theories in the past about their source: Christopher Columbus believed they were formed by dewdrops while the ancient Chinese believed pearls were the brains of dragons.

While pearl strands are certainly classics, we’re pretty obsessed with these sterling silver pearl octopus earrings. Perfect for the summer, this ShanOre look features June’s birthstone as the octopi’s heads and crystals on each of the tentacles. Don’t miss the matching necklace!

Many people associate the color white with pearls, but did you know that certain varieties of pearls come in other colors? These Tahitian pearl studs are naturally a darker black color, adding sophistication to June’s already-lovely birthstone.
Moonstone got a shoutout in one of Taylor Swift’s recent songs, and we love it that much more! Moonstones are believed to bring great luck to wearers and can be mined as close to home as Virginia. That’s stellar if you ask us!

This halo pendant showcases moonstone in all its glory. The center stone is moonstone surrounded by beautiful diamonds that highlight the iridescence of June’s birthstone.

Moonstone is often featured in art deco pieces, and this yellow gold ring is a prime example. Featuring filigree milgrain work, this ring is an absolute showstopper!
June’s final birthstone is alexandrite. Alexandrite is known for changing colors in the light, which is pretty much perfect for a summer birthstone! Depending on how you look at alexandrite, it can sparkle green, red, or a color in between. It’s absolutely dazzling.

These captivating alexandrite earrings are a perfect example of the sparkle this gemstone brings. Paired with beautiful diamonds, these dangle earrings would be a perfect gift for anyone with a June birthday!

One of our most exciting parts of the store is our Little Luxuries boutique, which features many different birthstone pieces. This birthstone ring is an affordable way to showcase your love for June babies, whether you are one or love one.
Whether you’ve fallen for pearl, moonstone, or alexandrite, Dickinson Jewelers in Prince Frederick and Dunkirk can help you find birthstone jewelry you’ll fall in love with. June’s three birthstones truly dazzle us, and we can’t wait to help you find the jewelry that will dazzle you, too.
