We’re working hard to get ready for our Antique and Estate Event, but we couldn’t let a minute go by without highlighting August’s beautiful birthstones! August’s birthstones are intense colors, bringing to mind some of those beautiful dog days of summer.
Peridot is considered to be the “primary” birthstone for August, and get this! Unlike most other gemstones, peridot is an out-of-this-world stone. Some peridot is actually believed to have traveled to Earth on meteorites! Another key source for peridot is in Arizona, where it developed after volcanic explosions. We’ve got to hand it to peridot: those are two epic origin stories.
Red spinel is also a popular birthstone for August. Although it didn’t originate in outer space, spinel is still a very interesting gemstone to mine. While spinel is found in several Asian countries, one mine in Vietnam actually requires hours-long hikes or bike rides to reach. We’d definitely say it’s worth the extra work.
Both peridot and spinel are absolutely stunning stones. We’ve found some of our favorite pieces featuring these birthstones to highlight this month.

How absolutely beautiful are these yellow gold peridot earrings? The halo style makes us think of some of our favorite antique styles while still being modern. And psst - the matching pendant and ring are just as luscious!

Our Little Luxuries boutique is a great place to shop for birthstone jewelry. We’re pretty obsessed with these birthstone stretch bracelets. They’re a pretty gift for the birthday girl, but we also love the idea of giving them to someone who holds an August baby close to their hearts. How cute and trendy would Mom be with a bracelet stack of all her babies’ birthstone bracelets?

These raindrop earrings are a great way to incorporate peridot into your outfit. The dangle-wire style of these earrings is very in right now, and we love how they show off peridot’s versatility: it’s so easy to wear not just in August but across the seasons.

How stunning is August’s second birthstone, red spinel? This jaw-dropping stone is believed to reduce anger and increase harmony. We definitely wouldn’t be mad if we unwrapped this stunner! This cushion-cut spinel set in a beautiful white-gold ring is absolutely gorgeous.

Okay, okay. This stone is technically pink spinel. But look how perfect it is in this pendant! We’re sure August babies will claim it. Surrounded by a halo of diamonds, this white gold necklace is sure to be a birthday hit.
Whether you’re shopping for birthstone jewelry or have fallen in love with peridot and spinel’s bold looks, Dickinson Jewelers has stylists ready to help. Come by today to find a birthstone piece you’ll cherish for years to come.
