Ah, July - could there be a better month to travel? It’s hot as blazes here in Calvert County, which means it’s time to hop in your car or jump on a plane and make your great escape. Whether you’re headed to the Amazon or to Annapolis, this truly is the most perfect time to plan a getaway.
It’s time to relax and recharge, but that doesn’t mean you have to leave your jewelry behind. Many of us have been victims of vacation jewelry catastrophes: tangled necklaces, lost rings, or worse. Luckily, we’re here with some handy tips to keep your Dickinson Jewelers gems bright and shiny.
Tip 1: Wrap It Up
Many of us have seen the old Pinterest tip of putting a straw on one end of your necklace to prevent tangles. While this works on delicate chains, it can become challenging when your jewelry is a bit more intricate. Another grocery store standby can solve this problem: Glad Press and Seal! This material, reminiscent of wax paper, sticks to itself when stretched and then pressed. This makes it simple to keep your jewelry safe. Simply cut one piece, lay your jewelry on it, and stretch an additional piece on top. This will keep your jewelry from being able to move and tangle while in your suitcase.
Tip 2: Repurpose Household Materials
Traveling with lots of smaller pieces? Whether you’re bringing cuff links or earrings to your final destination, you can keep those matched sets together using a simple weekly pill container. These containers can be easily purchased at Walmart, Safeway, or drug stores and are the perfect size to store smaller pieces of jewelry that you don’t want separated. These cases are already designed for travel, so you don’t have to worry about bringing a potentially bulky jewelry case or roll. Just slide the small container in your bag, and you’ll be on your way!
Tip 3: Don’t Lose Your Dangle
Of course, dangling earrings don’t fit quite as perfectly in a pill container as studs do. You can easily solve this problem with another household material: a button! Simply thread your earrings through the buttonholes - you’ll want to be sure you have the backs to the earrings - and pack. Keep your earrings even safer by putting them in a Ziploc bag or in your cosmetic case. We’d hate to hear that your bauble button got a longer vacation than you!
These simple tricks can save your sanity on trips, and they make sure your excursions still have plenty of sparkle! Soak up these last few days of summer, and we’ll see you when you get back. We can’t wait to hear all about your summer vacations when you stop in to our Prince Frederick or Dunkirk locations.
